Worldwide the evening primrose family is small. In our area the epilobium plants in this family are one of the most common flowers. They are very abundant and grow from a deep root system.
Flowers grow in showy spikes in multiples of 2 or 4, 4 sepals, 4 petals, 4-8 stamens. The ovary has a branched top part that recieves the pollen (stigma). The leaves are usually on stems.
