The heath family in Alaska are mostly shrubs. They include blueberries, huckleberries and cranberries. They are frequently evergreen but can also be deciduous. The flowers are cup, funnel or bell-shaped, have 4-5 sepals, 4-5 petals which are sometimes united at the base, and 1 ovary. The leaves are usually narrow and not toothed. They grow in wet acidic soil.
