The color index is divided into five color groups:  Blue Flowers, Red Flowers, Yellow Flowers, White Flowers and Other Flowers. the groupings are based on the colors of the petals and sepals (we ignored the colors of the male and female parts of the flowers). Also included is an index for poisonous species and an index to those species which produce berries. Some flowers are in more than color group since they have blossoms of different colors.  Other flowers such as those described as purple may be in both the Red Flower Index and the Blue Flower Index depending on the relative amounts of red and blue in the flower determined by Apple Computer's Digital Color Meter. Purple flowers with more red than blue or equal smounts of red and blue (magenta) are placed in the red index.  Purple flowers in which the blue dominates over the red are placed in both groups.
